Andy Pycroft likely to be removed from Pakistan’s Asia Cup matches

This move effectively resolves the controversy that threatened to overshadow the Asia Cup 2025.

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has accepted Pakistan’s objection and removed match referee Andy Pycroft, sources confirmed on Tuesday. This decision comes after Pakistan raised serious concerns regarding Pycroft’s alleged conduct and possible collusion with Indian officials during the T20 Asia Cup 2025, prompting calls for his replacement.

According to sources, the ICC has approved the appointment of former West Indies captain and veteran cricket official Richie Richardson as the new match referee. This move effectively resolves the controversy that threatened to overshadow the Asia Cup 2025.

The dispute escalated when Pakistan formally accused Pycroft of breaching the ICC’s code of conduct and filed a complaint seeking his removal. Initially, the ICC’s refusal to act had raised concerns about a possible boycott of the tournament by Pakistan.

However, the recent decision to replace Pycroft has eased tensions and ensured the smooth progression of the competition. With the issue now settled, Pakistan is set to play its scheduled match against the United Arab Emirates tomorrow.

This development is viewed as a significant victory for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which insisted on neutrality and fair play in tournament officiating. The appointment of Richie Richardson, a respected figure in world cricket, is expected to restore confidence and balance in the Asia Cup’s officiating moving forward.
