Islamabad-Amna Baloch to Lead Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry Amidst Major Diplomatic Shifts. Amna Baloch, a Grade 22 officer, has been appointed as Pakistan’s new foreign secretary, with the official notification issued by the Establishment Division following the prime minister’s approval.
Previously serving as Pakistan’s ambassador to Belgium, Baloch will assume her new role on September 11, succeeding Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, who will retire on September 10. Qazi has been appointed to the Federal Public Service Commission.

Baloch’s appointment highlights her extensive experience in international diplomacy, including her pivotal role in advancing Pakistan’s interests in Europe. As the country’s second female foreign secretary, she follows Tehmina Janjua, the first woman to hold the position. Baloch’s diplomatic career spans various high-profile roles, including serving as Pakistan’s high commissioner in Malaysia, consul general in Chengdu, China, and minister counsellor in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1991 and holds a master’s degree in history.

In related diplomatic changes, Faisal Trimizi, currently Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, is expected to succeed Baloch as the ambassador to Belgium and the EU. Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Foreign Office spokesperson, will become Pakistan’s ambassador to France, replacing Asim Iftikhar, who has been appointed as Pakistan’s additional permanent representative to the UN in New York. Iftikhar is anticipated to eventually succeed Ambassador Munir Akram.
Other new diplomatic appointments include Janbaz Khan as the Ambassador to Brunei, Malik Farooq as envoy to South Africa, and Mohammad Saleem as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Canada.
