American Congressman Supports Imran Khan, Calls for Utilizing Economic Power for His Release

Brokaw emphasized that military intervention is not necessary, but there is a need to exert economic pressure.
Washington: Tom Brokaw, an American congressman, has voiced his support for Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, stating that Khan is a friend of the United States and America should utilize its economic power for his release.
According to international news sources, Tom Brokaw released a video statement on the social media platform X, where he addressed questions raised by Democrat Brad Sherman in the House Foreign Affairs Committee regarding Imran Khan, who is considered a friend of the United States but has been imprisoned by the Pakistani military.
Following the committee hearing, Brokaw stated in the video, “We are trying to find out what’s going on there, and I am confident that our State Department will write a strong letter.”
Brokaw emphasized that military intervention is not necessary, but there is a need to exert economic pressure. He cautioned against resorting to actions such as sending ships or troops, citing past experiences.
Brokaw’s comments come amid growing concerns over Imran Khan’s detention and the need for international intervention to address the situation.

The Peshawar High Court has issued a detailed verdict on cases related to reserved seats, ruling that any political party failing to win a single seat in elections is not eligible for specific seats.
The decision came in response to a petition filed by the Sunni Ittehad Council regarding the allocation of reserved seats. The 30-page verdict authored by Justice A.S.M. Atiq Shah was announced by a five-member larger bench of the Peshawar High Court on March 14.
The court stated that the Peshawar High Court has the authority to hear cases related to provincial reserved seats. The decision to allocate specific seats among other political parties is in accordance with Article 51 of the Constitution. The Sunni Ittehad Council is not entitled to women’s reserved seats.
Furthermore, the court elaborated that after the specified time period has elapsed, the list of reserved seats cannot be compiled. An objection was raised by the petitioner that these reserved seats cannot be divided among other political parties. Since the Sunni Ittehad Council is not eligible for reserved seats, the petition was dismissed.

The Peshawar High Court has decreed that any political party failing to win a single seat in the general elections is not eligible for reserved seats. The right to reserved seats on specific occasions lies with the political parties participating in the general elections. Seats in provincial and national assemblies will not be left vacant according to the Constitution.
According to the detailed decision, the reasoning provided by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that reserved seats cannot be given to other parties is unconstitutional. The Election Commission has divided reserved seats in a constitutional manner. The Sunni Ittehad Council did not submit a list for reserved seats on time. Consequently, the Sunni Ittehad Council is not eligible for reserved seats.
