Ambassador Hashmi Hails Launch of Pakistan Studies Center as Milestone in China-Pak Ties
Center for Pakistan Studies Inaugurated at Shenzhen University
Shenzhen: In a significant step towards strengthening academic and cultural ties between Pakistan and China, the Center for Pakistan Studies was officially inaugurated today at Shenzhen University. The inauguration ceremony was led by Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, in the presence of Mr. Mao Junfa, President of Shenzhen University, along with distinguished scholars, faculty members, and students.
The newly established Center aims to serve as a dynamic platform for academic collaboration, research, dialogue, and educational exchange between the two nations. A key focus will be on fostering mutual understanding, particularly in the fields of new and emerging technologies.
In his address, Ambassador Hashmi expressed gratitude to the leadership of Shenzhen University for their unwavering support in bringing this initiative to fruition. He highlighted the growing momentum in Pakistan-China relations, particularly in education and research, and emphasized that Shenzhen — recognized globally as a hub of innovation and reform — was a fitting location for this academic endeavor.
“The Center for Pakistan Studies represents a concrete step in advancing people-to-people connections between our two countries,” the Ambassador noted. He also reflected on his visit to Shenzhen University a year ago, expressing satisfaction at seeing the idea materialize into a tangible institution.
The Center is envisioned as a hub for Pakistan-focused academic research, collaborative projects, student engagement, and business-to-business (B2B) initiatives. With its vibrant academic environment and international perspective, Shenzhen University provides a strong foundation for the Center’s long-term success.

Ahead of the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Hashmi held a meeting with President Mao Junfa to explore avenues for utilizing the Center to further academic, research, and entrepreneurial collaboration. He also toured the Shenzhen University History Museum, gaining insights into the university’s evolution and achievements.
