Ali Rehman Malik warns of global risks from destabilisation in Venezuela

Preventing State Collapse Requires Collective Global Action: IRR Chairman

Islamabad: Ali Rehman Malik, Chairman of the Institute of Research and Reforms International (IRR), has warned that a failed and destabilised Venezuela could pose serious risks to global stability, particularly in a multipolar world already facing economic and security pressures.

In a statement, he said Venezuela’s strategic importance in global energy markets, regional migration flows, and its geopolitical location makes instability there a matter of international concern rather than a regional issue alone.

Ali Rehman Malik cautioned that history shows removing a head of state without a clear and stabilising political endgame often leads to prolonged disorder rather than stability. He noted that geopolitical crises frequently begin with actions considered manageable, while their wider consequences emerge gradually and unpredictably.

He stressed the need for responsible international engagement based on dialogue, institutional continuity, and peaceful political processes, adding that unmanaged destabilisation creates vacuums that are difficult to control.

The IRR Chairman said preventing state failure is a shared global responsibility and called for diplomatic solutions that prioritise stability, sovereignty, and the welfare of civilian populations.
