Aleema Khan Slams Imran Khan’s Sentence, Vows to Challenge Decision in High Court
Islamabad – Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, has expressed her deep disappointment following the sentencing of her brother in the £190 million corruption case, calling it a “sad day for the justice system.” Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail on Friday, she condemned the lack of transparency in the legal proceedings and vowed to appeal the decision in the High Court.
“We had anticipated that [Imran Khan] would be sentenced, but I am deeply saddened by the injustice of this system,” Aleema Khan stated. She criticized the fact that neither the legal team nor the family was informed of the verdict beforehand. “No one knows on what grounds PTI’s founder and Bushra Bibi have been sentenced. The judgment claims the university was built through corruption and ordered the confiscation of property,” she added.
Aleema Khan further revealed that Imran Khan had urged the nation to read the Hamoodur Rehman Commission report, suggesting parallels between historical injustices and the current political situation. “General Yahya divided Pakistan into two parts for personal reasons, and this punishment is part of a similar chain of events,” she explained.
The PTI leader also criticized Judge Nasir Javed Rana, who delivered the sentence. “I feel sorry for Judge Nasir Javed Rana. He must have been under immense pressure. History will remember that he sentenced the PTI founder under questionable circumstances,” Aleema Khan remarked, confirming that the party would challenge the verdict in the High Court with full confidence in their lawyer, Salman Safdar.
Legal Team Raises Concerns Over Transparency
Salman Safdar, a senior lawyer handling the case, also addressed the media, expressing concerns over the integrity of the trial. He highlighted the fact that journalists were informed of the decision before even the lawyers or the accused. “It is shocking that journalists knew about the verdict before the legal team or the accused. This is a serious lapse in the judicial process,” Safdar stated, affirming that this issue would be raised during the High Court appeal.
Despite the challenges, Safdar remained hopeful. “We continue to have faith in the legal system. We will fight to ensure that justice is served and that this institution remains strong,” he concluded.
