Akhtar Mengal’s National Assembly resignation finally approved
Retroactive approval ends long wait for Mengal’s resignation
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The resignation of Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Akhtar Mengal from the National Assembly has been approved nearly 17 months after it was submitted.
According to sources, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq formally accepted Mengal’s resignation, which was effective from the date he originally submitted it. Mengal had tendered his resignation on September 3, 2024.
Sources further stated that Akhtar Mengal continued to enjoy all privileges and benefits as a Member of the National Assembly until January 2026.

Mengal represented NA-256 Khuzdar-I and with the approval of his resignation, the seat has now fallen vacant. A by-election is expected to be held within the next three months to fill the seat.
This approval ends a prolonged wait since Mengal’s resignation was first submitted over a year ago.
