AIOU Introduces Three New BS Programs

Under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, aim to provide students with more diverse educational opportunities.

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is now offering three new Bachelor of Science programs: BS E-Commerce, BS Psychology, and BS Political Science.

These additions, under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, aim to provide students with more diverse educational opportunities.

The new programs were approved during a recent Faculty Board meeting, which was presided over by Dean Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir. The board also gave the green light to updated study plans for undergraduate, MPhil, PhD, and other postgraduate courses across multiple departments.

A press release issued on Monday highlighted that the meeting also focused on curriculum updates, including the revision of existing courses and the introduction of new subjects to better align with current academic and industry standards.

Dr. Sahir emphasized that all academic offerings will adhere to the policies set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to quality education under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.

He also noted that, following government instructions, courses on Fahm-ul-Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi have already been incorporated into all degree programs. In the future, AIOU plans to introduce courses on Pakistani languages to celebrate and promote the nation’s cultural and linguistic heritage.

Faculty members were instructed to ensure that all new programs meet the required credit hours and policy standards before being forwarded to the Academic Council for final approval.

Additionally, Lecturer Dr. Munir Khattak presented the proposed Undergraduate Rules, Regulations, and Procedures (URRP) 2025, which are designed to benefit both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and on-campus students. The proposal received unanimous support from the faculty.

All recommendations and decisions from the Faculty Board will be submitted to the Academic Council and Executive Council for final endorsement in upcoming sessions.
