Adiala Jail Denies Blocking Committee’s Access to Imran Khan

Islamabad: The administration of Adiala Jail has responded to allegations made by the Jail Reforms Committee, denying claims that they obstructed the committee’s attempts to meet with prisoners, including PTI chairman Imran Khan.

In a statement, the jail authorities clarified that when the Jail Reforms Committee sought to meet Imran Khan, the former prime minister was attending a hearing at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court, over which the jail administration had no control. The administration emphasized that it had not placed any barriers to the committee’s work.

This response follows a letter from Khadija Shah, a member of the Jail Reforms Committee, who had earlier written to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi of the Supreme Court. Shah raised concerns about the jail administration’s refusal to allow the committee access to Imran Khan’s barracks, stating that without hearing Khan’s perspective, the committee could not provide a comprehensive report to the Supreme Court.

In her letter, Shah called on the Chief Justice to issue directives enabling the committee to visit Adiala Jail and meet with the former prime minister, stressing the importance of a thorough review of the situation.
