Ad-Hoc and Temporary Employees’ Sit-In Enters 10th Day in Muzaffarabad
Muzaffarabad(Special Correspondent) The sit-in protest by ad-hoc and temporary employees in front of the Press House in Muzaffarabad has entered its 10th day. The protesters, demanding permanent employment, have gained support from various organizations and social leaders.
Representatives from the Pakistan Employees Association joined the protest, expressing solidarity with the ad-hoc and temporary employees. Syed Siddiq Hussain Shah, Senior Vice Chairman of All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC), and Chaudhry Farman Ali, Central Secretary General of APNEC, addressed the sit-in, assuring full support from employees across Pakistan.
Shah and Ali demanded that the Azad Kashmir government make the ad-hoc and temporary employees permanent immediately. They warned that if this demand is not met, employees across Pakistan will launch a protest movement in support of the sit-in.
Faisal Jameel Kashmiri, a well-known social personality, expressed strong support for the employees’ legitimate demand for permanent employment. He cautioned the Azad Kashmir government not to overlook the importance of resolving this issue.
In response to the protests, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir has constituted a committee to engage with representatives of ad-hoc, contract, and temporary employees regarding their demands. The committee, chaired by Col. Waqar Ahmed Noor (Retd.), includes ministers and secretaries from various departments.
Committee members include Dr. Deewan Ali Khan Chughtai, Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education; Muhammad Javaid Ayub, Minister for Zakat-o-Usher & Muzaffarabad Development Authority; Secretary Services & General Administrations; and Secretary Elementary & Secondary Education.
The protesters have decided to intensify their protest by hoisting black flags and tying black bands on their arms. The sit-in has gained momentum, with various organizations and social leaders joining the cause.
Other speakers, including Salik Rashid Abbasi, Tariq Saleem Shah, Syed Altaf Hussain Naqvi, Raja Ghulam Jilani, Raja Athar Ali Khan, Waqas Mughal, Ansar Mughal, Sardar Waseem Sikandar, and Malik Mushtaq, reiterated the demand for permanent employment and warned of severe consequences if the government fails to address this issue.
The situation remains tense as the protesters await the government’s response. The committee’s efforts to engage with the representatives of ad-hoc, contract, and temporary employees will be crucial in resolving this issue.
