Aamir Khan Apologizes for YouTube Pricing Glitch After Film Release

Industry experts say this move could affect Khan’s trust with exhibitors in the future.

Mumbai — Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recently released his new film Sitaare Zameen Par on YouTube using a pay-per-view model, priced at ₹100. The film had earlier been released in theatres on June 20.

However, soon after the online launch, Apple users noticed they were being charged ₹179 instead of ₹100, causing confusion and complaints.

In response, Aamir Khan Productions apologized on social media and said the issue is being fixed:

“We just became aware that the cost to rent our film is showing as ₹179 on Apple devices. We are trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”

Earlier, Aamir Khan had promised the film would be shown only in cinemas, but later decided to release it on YouTube to make it more affordable and accessible. He admitted he wasn’t fully honest about the change but said it was necessary to protect the film’s box office performance.

Industry experts say this move could affect Khan’s trust with exhibitors in the future. However, he defended the decision, saying it gives Indian families an affordable way to enjoy films at home.
