The Destination sat down with 18-year-old Hassan Naseem, a rising football talent from Islamabad, who recently completed his intermediate education from Imperial International College. But more than academics, it’s football that defines him — a passion that began when he was just five years old.
Q: Hassan, tell us when and how football became such a big part of your life?
Hassan Naseem: I honestly can’t remember a time without football. Since I was five, I’ve been obsessed with watching and playing the sport. I would watch matches with pure excitement, trying to copy players’ moves in my neighborhood parks and streets. By the time I turned seven, I knew deep inside that I wanted to become a professional footballer.
Q: When did you start receiving formal training?
Hassan: I joined the famous Mehran Football Academy in Islamabad when I was 11. That was a turning point. It helped me transition from casual street play to disciplined, professional football. Since then, I’ve played in U12, U15, U17, and senior categories, representing the academy in various national tournaments.
Q: What major tournaments have you played in so far?
Hassan: I’ve played in the All Pakistan Azad Kashmir Football Tournament, which took me to cities like Palandri, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Hajira, and Mirpur. I’ve also played in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in Lahore and the All Punjab Championship in Sialkot. In KP, I’ve participated in matches across Mansehra, Oghi, Kohat, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Nowshera, and more.
Q: And in Islamabad?
Hassan: Absolutely. I’ve played in high-profile youth events like Islamabad Premier League Youth organized by Popo FC, and other tournaments like Islamabad Challenge Cup. These competitions really shaped my skills and gave me exposure.
Q: Who’s your football role model?
Hassan: Cristiano Ronaldo has always been my favorite. I admire his work ethic, discipline, and dedication. I watch his videos regularly and try to incorporate his style into my game. One of my biggest dreams is to one day play professionally like him.
Q: Are you still playing with Mehran Academy?
Hassan: Yes, I continue to represent Mehran Football Academy and plan to participate in several more national tournaments in the near future.
Q: Final thoughts?
Hassan: Football is not just a hobby for me — it’s a lifestyle. I’m grateful for every opportunity, and I’m working hard every day to take my passion to the next level. InshAllah, one day I’ll make my country proud.
