2,000 police deployed in Islamabad

To enhance security measures, special checkpoints will be strategically placed at crucial locations across the city.

ISLAMABAD: Over 2,000 dedicated officers from the Islamabad Police force have been deployed during the New Year celebrations in Islamabad.

According to the spokesperson for Islamabad Police, caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has imposed a ban on New Year events.

Emphasizing the importance of public safety, the spokesperson added that stringent actions will be taken against activities such as aerial firing, hooliganism, and one-wheeling within Islamabad.

To enhance security measures, special checkpoints will be strategically placed at crucial locations across the city. Additionally, the Islamabad Police have enlisted the assistance of the Dolphin Force to conduct patrols, contributing to a visible and proactive police presence.

Entry to churches will be allowed only after thorough checking. This measure aims to ensure the safety of all individuals attending religious gatherings.

The spokesperson urged the public to utilize the emergency services efficiently by calling 15 or using the ICT 15 app in case of any emergencies.

As caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Thursday announced a complete ban on New Year celebrations in an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas in retaliation for its October 7 attack, which left about 1,140 people dead, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

In response, Israel’s relentless aerial bombardment and ground invasion with troops and tanks have killed at least 21,320 people, mostly women and children, and wounded another 55,603 people, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
