Rana questions whether those behind May 9 events be spared merely for elections

Jinnah House attack: Prosecution readies appeal against bail granted to PTI’s Sanam Javed, others

LAHORE – Rana Sanaullah – a senior PML-N leader who is also the president of party’s chapter – on Wednesday said they were against targeting political parties, but questioned whether any party or leader involved in violence should be spared only because that person was to participate in elections.

In a statement, Rana shared his principled stance that no political party and leader should be targeted before and after elections.

“We are against targeting the political parties. But if a party or leader attacks national security, disrespect the martyrs’ statues, then should no case [legal process] be initiated against him because he is to participate in election?” he explained his point of view with obvious reference to the PTI in connection with the May 9 events.

“Where was Nawaz Sharif when elections were held on July 25, 2018?” he remarked and recalled that the then prime minister was disqualified over Iqama and the PML-N’s Senate candidates for having dual nationality. “Everything is on record.”

Rana said PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would arrive in Lahore on October 21 and later reach Minar-e-Pakistan for addressing a rally, thus launching his party’s election campaign.

He noted that all the cases in which Nawaz had been nominated were bogus, adding that the current state of affairs in Pakistan was a product of the conspiracy hatched against the former prime minister.

The prosecution has prepared an appeal against granting bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists including Sanam Javed and others arrested in connection with the Jinnah House attack case.

The appeal against these women will be filed after the approval of the Prosecutor General.
