55 workers arrested; PTI Karachi holds rally for release of Imran Khan

LHC drops Dr Yasmin Rashid’s bail case after fixing for hearing,

Karachi_Karachi East police arrested six workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for holding a protest rally and a demonstration outside its office for the early release of their party Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday.  These workers were arrested from the area of Karsaz in Karachi. The Karachi police have also made some arrests from other areas including outside the PTI’s Insaf House Karachi. After the rally in favour of Imran Khan, East police arrested more than 55 people from different areas of Karachi during raids.

According to the channel report, Karachi East Police detained the workers from Shahrah Faisal, Nursery, Allahwali Chowrangi and Namaish areas. The report said that a heavy contingent of Karachi police has also been deployed outside the Insaf House to make more arrests of the PTI workers. Reacting over the arrests, PTI Karachi spokespersons said East Police arrested six workers from the Karsaz when they were holding a motorbike rally for the release of Chairman Imran Khan. The PTI spokesperson also claimed that the police beaten charged the participants of the rally at Shahrah-e-Quaid-a-Azam and arrested six workers.

He further said that PTI activists were arrested from Insaf House Karachi, Shahrah Faisal, Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam and Chowrangi. On the other hand, Karachi police sources said that more arrests of PTI workers may be done.

The Registrar’s Office of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Sunday canceled the cause list for a division bench that was supposed to take up the bail petition of the accused involved in the attack on Jinnah House Lahore and Askari Tower Gulberg,  A plea has been filed by PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid, Khadija Shah, and other accused in the LHC seeking bail.   The petition was fixed for hearing on August 28 but the registrar’s office dropped the case owing to the unavailability of the two-member bench’s headed2 Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi. It merits mentioning here that the last hearing on the issue was held on couple of days ago, since then, the case has remained unheard. Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Khadija Shah, and the other accused will be issued a re-cause list related to the application for bail.

Disappeared Shehzad Akbar’s brother returns home

The brothers of former accountability adviser Shahzad Akbar and former PTI MNA Ali Nawaz Awan’ have returned home safely, Shahzad Akbar’s brother, Murad Akbar went missing on May 28, and Ali Nawaz Awan’s brother Umar Nawaz Awan disappeared on July 5.

 

According to a first information report (FIR) registered with Shalimar police station, Murad was “abducted” by people purportedly from different law-enforcing agencies from his Islamabad residence on May 28. In reaction, Shehzad Akbar held the government was trying to force him to return to Islamabad and give evidence against Khan and kidnapped his brother Murad to put pressure on him. Umar Nawaz Awan was kidnapped from the federal capital in front of his wife and four little children. His wife also shared evidence regarding the lifting of Umar Nawaz with the police officials in USB.
