USA invited Pakistan to democracy summit but decided not to attend

Islamabad: (Staff Reporter) United States of America (USA) invited Pakistan to the democracy summit scheduled on March 29 while Pakistan decided not to attend the summit but opted to engage with US and co-hosting countries.

According to the source, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch pronounced policy statement regarding democracy summit on Tuesday and expressed gratitude to USA and co-hosts for invitation. She noted that Pakistani nation possesses democratic values and had ensured democracy, human rights and basic freedom at several instances.

As per details, she added “the nation was celebrating 50th anniversary of 1973 constitution and the constitution of Pakistan was custodian of democracy in Pakistan. She said that Pakistan values friendship with USA and hoped for betterment of relations to promote peace and stability in the region.”

Furthermore she said that “Pakistan had not been a part of conference initiated since 2021. The countries had to make some commitments and Pakistan wanted to be kept engaged. Pakistan supported US and the co-host countries for the promotion and strengthening of democratic principles, values and Pakistan would continue to work with the hosts to strive for human rights and anti-corruption.”
