MBBS Admissions Scandal: 53 Suspicious Marksheets Detected at Sindh Medical Universities

43 suspicious marksheets were identified at LUMHS, while seven were detected at JSMU

KARACHI: (Staff Reporter) – A major scandal involving alleged manipulation of intermediate pre-medical examination marks for MBBS admissions has emerged in Sindh, with two leading public-sector medical universities identifying 53 suspicious marksheets containing significant discrepancies from the official results gazettes issued by the respective educational board.

Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, and Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), Karachi, have reportedly flagged the suspicious documents submitted by candidates seeking admission to medical colleges.

According to sources, 43 suspicious marksheets were identified at LUMHS, while seven were detected at JSMU. The documents reportedly relate to candidates who appeared in examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad.

Sources fear that a comprehensive verification of candidates’ marksheets against official gazettes across all medical universities could uncover further cases of alleged manipulation and irregularities.

Highly placed sources told *The News* that significant discrepancies had emerged between the marks recorded on some candidates’ intermediate pre-medical marksheets and those published in the Hyderabad Board’s official gazette for the 2026 annual examinations.

In some cases, candidates’ aggregate marks were allegedly increased by 50 to 100 under the pretext of scrutiny, raising concerns that the merit-based admission process for medical colleges may have been compromised.

Sources further revealed that the scrutiny process was reportedly carried out while Hyderabad Board Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho was abroad to perform Umrah.

The development has raised serious questions about who authorised the changes in the chairman’s absence, which officials processed the scrutiny applications, and whether the board’s prescribed rules and regulations were followed.

Complaints regarding alleged manipulation and irregularities in the results of the Intermediate Part-II annual examinations 2026 had reportedly surfaced earlier as well. Deputy Controller of the Top Secret Branch, Ijaz Ali Kaka, has also been suspended in connection with the matter, according to sources.

Meanwhile, concerns have also been raised over possible alterations in marksheets issued by the Mirpurkhas Board. Sources claimed that despite requests from universities conducting MBBS admissions, the original results gazettes were not being provided, creating difficulties in independently verifying candidates’ academic records.

On the other hand, no suspicious marksheets have so far reportedly been identified at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, the third major public-sector medical university involved in MBBS admissions in Sindh.

However, sources have also raised questions about the system used by the university to verify candidates’ marksheets.

The alleged discrepancies have raised concerns about transparency, merit and the integrity of the MBBS admission process across Sindh.
