Seven Terrorists Killed in North Waziristan Operation, Security Sources Say

Weapons and ammunition recovered as President Zardari praises the forces for their latest action against Fitna al Khawarij

North Waziristan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Seven terrorists killed in an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Friday, according to Radio Pakistan.

The state says the group belonged to Fitna al Khawarij. This is the name used for members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Security sources said forces recovered a large amount of weapons and ammunition during the action. The hideouts used by the group were also destroyed.

President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for the operation. He said the plans of the terrorists’ foreign backers and local helpers would be defeated at any cost.

He also said the whole nation stands behind its forces in the fight against terrorism.

The province has faced rising violence in recent months. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies shows 54 attacks in August, up from 36 in July. That is a rise of 50 percent. These figures do not include the merged districts.

Friday’s action follows several others in North Waziristan this week. Nine terrorists were killed on Thursday, 13 on Wednesday and five on Tuesday. Seven more were killed on October 2.

Forces also carried out operations in Mir Ali, Bara and Dera Ismail Khan in late September. Three, five and four terrorists were killed in them, respectively.

The province also suffered deadly attacks last month. A suicide blast at a police checkpost in DI Khan on September 26 killed 12 people and injured 35. On September 18, an attack on the old Police Lines in Kohat killed 23 people and injured about 100.
