Pakistan Faces Very Low Risk of Plague Outbreak: Mustafa Kamal

Border Health Services had been put on alert at all points of entry across the country

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal has said that the risk of a plague outbreak in Pakistan is currently very low.

In a statement, Mustafa Kamal said that the World Health Organization (WHO) had also not been fully briefed on the situation regarding a suspected plague case reported in Siberia, Russia.

He said that Border Health Services had been put on alert at all points of entry across the country as a precautionary measure.

The federal health minister added that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has the capacity to diagnose plague cases in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Director General Health said that the Ministry of National Health Services and the National Institutes of Health were fully aware of the situation and were closely monitoring developments.
