Govt-PPP Team to Meet PTI Negotiation Committee Before October 4 March

Government and PPP leaders will sit with PTI at the National Assembly speaker's office, as tension rises ahead of the October 4 long march.

Islamabad – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have formed a joint team to meet the PTI negotiation committee on Friday. The talks aim to calm the political situation in the country.

The President’s Office shared this news after a meeting on Thursday. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met at the President House and took the decision together.

The two leaders talked about the overall political and security situation. They also spoke about the law and order problems in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the PTI is in power.

They said the country must stay united against terrorism. They also said all related institutions should work closely together for peace and stability.

Who Will Be in the Government Team?

The federal government has named three members. They are Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Rana Sanaullah, who is the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, and Amir Muqam, the Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions.

The PPP will send three leaders. They are Senator Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar and Aijaz Jakhrani.

This six-member team will sit with PTI leaders and try to find a way forward.

The news came only hours after PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan spoke to the media. He said his party had accepted the government’s offer for talks.

According to Gohar, the government’s message reached the party on Wednesday. PTI replied after an opposition leaders’ meeting held earlier that day.

He also shared the time and place. The two sides will meet at noon on Friday in the office of the National Assembly speaker.

The PTI had planned a long march towards Islamabad on September 27. Later, the party moved the date to October 4.

The party says the march is meant to seek the release of its jailed founder, Imran Khan. It also wants what it calls the restoration of constitutional supremacy.

Gohar said the announcement about the long march was final. He added that the opposition was still talking about the preparations and the political plan.

Because the date is close, the Friday meeting is seen as an important step. Many people are now watching to see if both sides can find common ground.

Concern Over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Gohar also spoke about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the main focus should be on stopping terrorism in the province.

He said the PTI has always opposed making terrorism a political issue.

The PTI leader also gave a warning about governor’s rule in the province. In his view, such a step would make things worse, raise tension and create more divisions.

“I tell everyone, for God’s sake, come to their senses and avoid such measures,” he said.

Gohar had said earlier that the party’s doors were open for talks. He said PTI would welcome a government team if it wished to start a dialogue.

Now that both sides have agreed to meet, the next step is the meeting itself. Whether it ends in an agreement or not, it will affect what happens on October 4.

For now, all eyes are on the speaker’s office, where the government team and the PTI negotiation committee will sit face to face on Friday.
