Pakistan Hockey League Launch Ceremony Set for October 14

ISLAMABAD: (Mudassar Iqbal) – The official launch ceremony of the Pakistan Hockey League will be held in Islamabad on October 14, with the inaugural season expected to begin in 2027, on Wednesday.

The first season is expected to feature between six and eight franchise teams. Alongside Pakistani players, internationally renowned hockey stars are also expected to participate, giving local players an opportunity to compete and train alongside experienced players from around the world.

The league is being developed on the model of international competitions such as the FIH Hockey Pro League and the Indian Hockey League. Its organisers aim to modernise Pakistan’s hockey structure and establish a more sustainable system for the country’s national sport.

The competition will bring together the private sector, franchise owners and corporate sponsors, while also creating opportunities for Pakistani hockey professionals to work with international experts.

The league is expected to generate new opportunities in broadcasting, digital content, merchandising and advertising, while hospitality and ticketing will also form part of the commercial structure. Organisers also plan to promote grassroots programmes to increase public participation in hockey.

The Pakistan Hockey League will further focus on developing young talent and encouraging the use of sports science in player training and performance.

The broader objective is to provide Pakistan hockey with a modern and sustainable platform that can contribute to the sport’s long-term development at both domestic and international levels.
