US Response to Iranian Proposal Reaches Tehran Through Qatar

WASHINGTON: (News Desk) – Washington has conveyed its response to an Iranian proposal to Tehran through Qatari mediators, marking a fresh development in indirect talks between the United States and Iran, on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received the US response during a meeting with Qatari mediators in Doha. He is expected to return to Tehran and brief the Iranian leadership on Washington’s position.

An official briefed on the talks said the main disagreement between the two sides centres on the sequence in which the proposed measures would be implemented. The contents of the US response have not been made public.

The discussions are focused on an Iranian seven-day trust-building proposal that includes steps aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and restoring normal maritime passage, subject to certain conditions.

Qatar has continued its mediation efforts as Washington and Tehran seek to narrow their differences. The latest exchange follows the resumption of indirect contacts between the two sides through Qatari mediation.

The proposed arrangement is centred on reciprocal steps by Washington and Tehran rather than an immediate comprehensive settlement.
