Naqvi Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Stronger Iran-Pakistan Relations
The meetings came amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran
TEHRAN: (News Desk) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that US actions and pressure have contributed to closer engagement among Muslim countries, citing the increasing diplomatic interaction between Iran and Pakistan as an example.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran on Monday. Naqvi also held talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni during his visit, with discussions focusing on bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation.
The Iranian president welcomed the growing momentum in Tehran-Islamabad relations and called for greater cooperation in trade, energy, tourism, investment, culture and science.
Pezeshkian said Iran and Pakistan possess significant human and natural resources and could address many of their needs by combining domestic and regional capabilities. He also stressed the importance of joint investment and stronger communication between different sectors of the two countries.
Naqvi, meanwhile, said Pakistan was committed to further expanding ties with Iran across multiple areas, including trade, economy, tourism, politics, culture and science. He also briefed the Iranian president on the progress of bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
Earlier, Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, with the two sides reviewing cooperation between their respective interior ministries and discussing ways to strengthen coordination on matters of mutual interest.
Momeni expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts toward regional peace and stability and thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in those efforts. Naqvi said Pakistan-Iran relations would continue to strengthen in the coming period.
The meetings came amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran and diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations. Pakistan has been involved in regional diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating dialogue.
