CM Maryam Nawaz Announces Major Education, Health and Transport Reforms Across Punjab
Punjab – (Special Correspondent/News Desk) – CM Maryam Nawaz has rolled out a wide set of plans for Punjab, touching health, schools, roads and public transport. She shared these ideas on Thursday while opening the new Electric Bus Service in Multan. Her speech covered many sectors at once, showing her focus on everyday problems faced by common people.
One of her biggest promises was about cancer care. She said a full cancer hospital will open in every division of Punjab. These hospitals must start working within a year. She also mentioned that Lahore is already building the province’s first public cancer hospital. This step aims to bring cheaper and closer treatment to patients who once had to travel far.
She also spoke about progress already made in health. Free treatment has reached many patients through mobile clinics, field hospitals and even an air ambulance. She noted that around 100 cancer patients recovered using a coblation machine in Lahore. A second PET scan machine has also been added in Multan, boosting diagnostic support in the region.
Turning to education, CM Maryam Nawaz raised concern over weak results in Class IX. She ordered action against teachers whose students scored below 20 percent. Schools will now hold monthly and yearly tests, and extra evening classes will help struggling students. She also told officials to stop pushing weak students out of schools and to fill empty head teacher posts within 45 days.
New steps include hiring subject specialists and building a digital app to track school performance. Every district will get monthly school ratings, and top schools will win prizes. She praised a girls’ school in Jhang for its excellent results. A mobile “Library on Wheels” will also begin in Lahore, carrying thousands of digital books to students.
On transport, the Multan electric bus project marks a major shift. In the first stage, 45 buses will run on key city routes. Soon, 160 more buses will join, with a goal of 205 buses for the whole division. She said 1,100 more green buses are on the way, and every district in Punjab will eventually get electric buses. The province hopes to reach 3,000 buses by year’s end and 5,000 in the long run. These buses offer air conditioning, Wi-Fi, charging ports and safety cameras.
Students will also benefit from a new e-bike scheme. Around 100,000 e-bikes will be given out, and applications close on October 4. Female students won’t need to pay any deposit and will get free helmets along with driving lessons.
She shared updates on infrastructure too. Around 50,000 kilometers of roads have been built or repaired. Clean water supply has grown, reaching many more households. The Multan-Vehari Road, once risky for accidents, now takes just an hour to cross instead of two and a half hours.
Housing also got attention, with Rs300 billion set aside for the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” plan. Over 200,000 loans have already gone out under this scheme, with a bigger goal of helping 500,000 families find homes.
On accountability, she mentioned that many police officers face arrest over bribery claims. She also defended her recent use of an official plane, saying she personally paid the cost for a family event.
Overall, her message stressed steady work on health, learning, roads and public transport, aiming to make life easier for people across Punjab.
