Israel, Morocco Upgrade Diplomatic Ties With Full Embassies Agreement
New York: (News Desk) – Israel and Morocco have agreed to upgrade their diplomatic relations by elevating their diplomatic missions to full embassies and appointing ambassadors in both countries following a trilateral meeting in New York.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz.
The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with the move described in a joint statement as being in the common interests of Morocco and Israel and as contributing to peace.
Morocco and Israel restored diplomatic relations in 2020 under the US-brokered Abraham Accords. The latest agreement represents a further step toward formalising those ties through full embassies and an exchange of ambassadors.
The two sides also agreed to deepen economic cooperation, including plans to finalise agreements on investment protection and the avoidance of double taxation by the end of 2026.
The countries further pledged to expand direct air connections, including flights operated by airlines from both nations, with the aim of restoring direct services before the end of the year.
Israel and Morocco also announced plans for reciprocal high-level visits in the coming months as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
The latest development follows a similar announcement in 2022 regarding the possible elevation of the diplomatic missions. Israel currently operates a liaison office in Rabat rather than a full embassy.
