Earlier in July, Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia is trying to build an international coalition. The goal is to protect ships in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks. Tensions around Yemen have kept climbing since then.

The trouble began in early July, when the Houthis said their forces stopped Saudi warplanes. Those planes were reportedly trying to block an Iranian civilian aircraft from landing in Sanaa. Since that clash, the situation has only grown more tense.

Reuters said it could not yet confirm the Axios report on its own. The White House and the Saudi embassy in Washington have not responded to requests for comment. Officials say more clarity could come once regular business hours resume.
