ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the authorities to finalise detailed plans for the establishment of Daanish University, including a clear construction timeline, within two weeks.
Chairing a review meeting on the proposed university in Islamabad on Thursday, the prime minister said the institution should offer international-standard education and professional training to talented students from economically disadvantaged and middle-income families.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed that Daanish University should follow a model different from conventional universities and emerge as an institution of excellence. He also directed officials to develop an effective outreach programme aimed at informing children from underprivileged and middle-income households about educational opportunities at the university.
The meeting was briefed by members of the Daanish University Board on plans to recruit international-standard faculty and develop the institution’s campus and academic infrastructure.
Officials said globally recognised academics holding degrees from leading international universities would be invited to teach at the university. Efforts to partner with a prominent US college to help develop the university’s academic and teaching framework were also said to be at an advanced stage.
The meeting was further informed that the university would feature a state-of-the-art campus designed according to international standards. The bidding process for construction is expected to begin shortly, while officials also presented the proposed architectural design and construction plan to the prime minister.
Federal Ministers Dr Musadik Masood Malik and Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, members of the Daanish University Board and senior government officials attended the meeting.
