ISLAMABAD: (Health Reporter) – The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has updated the postgraduate Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) curricula for four major dental specialities after nearly two decades.
The decision was approved during the 229th meeting of the Advanced Studies & Research Board (ASRB), chaired by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nadia Naseem.
The revised programmes cover Operative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. The update is designed to bring postgraduate dental education in line with modern developments in dentistry, contemporary teaching practices and the changing needs of specialist healthcare.
The curriculum review was conducted by Speciality Advisory Committees comprising subject experts, in collaboration with UHS’s Department of Medical Education. The updated programmes have been aligned with Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Medical & Dental Council guidelines, as well as UHS Level-III MD/MS/MDS Regulations 2024.
The Board of Studies (Dentistry) had previously reviewed the proposed changes and recommended that they be forwarded to the Academic Council through the ASRB.
Prof. Dr. Sarah Ghafoor, Convener of the Board of Studies (Dentistry) and Officiating Head of the Department of Medical Education, briefed the ASRB on the revised curricula and their key features.
The meeting also reviewed thesis evaluation cases across several postgraduate disciplines, along with PhD research synopses and numerous synopses for MD, MS, MDS, M.Phil and MHPE programmes.
