Pakistan Leads UN Disarmament Forum as Andrabi Takes Charge

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – Pakistan’s Additional Secretary for Disarmament and International Security, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, has assumed the presidency of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament, taking charge of the international forum at a crucial time for global security and arms-control discussions.

In a message posted on X, Andrabi described Pakistan’s assumption of the presidency as an honour and pledged to promote meaningful and substantive consultations among all participating delegations.

He said he was committed to working with representatives of member states to advance dialogue under Pakistan’s chairmanship.

Andrabi also expressed hope that the 2026 session of the Conference on Disarmament could be concluded successfully and reach consensus at the earliest possible opportunity.

He shared a photograph after formally assuming the presidency.

Pakistan’s leadership of the Conference on Disarmament provides Islamabad with an important diplomatic platform to facilitate discussions and consensus-building on issues involving international disarmament, arms control and global security.

The presidency also offers an opportunity to encourage constructive engagement among participating states on long-standing disarmament challenges and efforts to strengthen international peace and security.
