FAISALABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Lawyers in Faisalabad have announced a strike for Tuesday to protest what they describe as unlawful and inappropriate conduct by police officials.
The strike call was issued by office-bearers of the Punjab Bar Council, making it the third such call in the Faisalabad division within a matter of days. Similar strike calls were observed on August 11 and August 17.
The latest protest is linked to allegations involving the sons of Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed Luna. Lawyers have alleged that police personnel harassed the two men and accused a sub-inspector of allegedly attempting to abduct and intimidate them.
The legal community has called for action against the police officials allegedly involved and has urged the Punjab Inspector General of Police, Regional Police Officer and City Police Officer Faisalabad to address the matter.
The repeated strike calls, however, have also raised questions about whether the dispute should instead be pursued through appropriate legal and institutional forums to prevent disruption to judicial proceedings.
The latest strike is expected to affect hearings in courts across Faisalabad, potentially delaying ongoing cases and creating additional difficulties for litigants, particularly those travelling from distant areas.
