Dar and Eide Hold Landmark Talks in Islamabad to Boost Trade, Climate and People-to-People Ties

Pakistan & Norway – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Pakistan Norway bilateral relations took a major step forward on Thursday as top leaders from both countries met in Islamabad for high-level talks. This was the most senior meeting between the two nations in ten years, marking a fresh chapter in their friendship.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide for a restricted meeting. The two leaders later led wider delegation talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides looked closely at the full range of ties between Pakistan and Norway. They also spoke about regional and global issues that matter to both nations.

During the talks, officials focused on trade, investment, climate change, maritime affairs and education. These are areas where both countries see room to grow together.

The leaders also praised the role of the Pakistani community living in Norway. They agreed to build stronger people-to-people links between the two nations in the coming years.

Both Islamabad and Oslo shared happiness over the warm state of their relationship. They agreed to work closer in every field where their interests match.

Speaking at a joint press conference, FM Eide talked about the strong bond between the two countries. He pointed out that a large number of Pakistanis call Norway home.

He also shared that several Norwegian firms are active in Pakistan. These companies, he said, are helping the country grow economically.

FM Eide praised Pakistan’s role in supporting peace in the region and the world. He said these efforts have earned praise from the international community.

He also gave a warning. He said tensions in the region are putting global stability and economic growth at risk. Still, he appreciated Pakistan’s brave stand during tough times.

The Norwegian minister spoke highly of Pakistan’s role during the recent Iran-US conflict. He praised the leadership shown by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, DPM Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

On his part, DPM Dar promised that Pakistan will keep working to grow its friendship with Norway. He said both sides will explore new fields where they can work together.

FM Eide reached Islamabad earlier in the day for a two-day official visit. This trip marks the highest-level contact between the two countries in the last ten years.

Ambassador Ayesha Ali, Additional Foreign Secretary for Europe, welcomed him at the airport upon his arrival.

Eide’s visit came at the invitation of DPM Dar himself. The Foreign Office said the goal of this trip is to strengthen old ties and open new doors for cooperation.

Ahead of the visit, officials said both sides would talk about trade, climate change, clean energy, education and stronger public connections. They would also share views on important issues shaping the region and the world.

This meeting shows that Pakistan Norway bilateral relations are entering a new and promising phase, built on trust, shared goals, and years of friendly ties.
