Journalist Fakhar Durrani Alleges Foreign Network Targeted Pakistani Media Platforms

Fakhar Durrani Claims Foreign Network Offered Payments for Media Influence

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Investigative journalist Fakhar Durrani has alleged that a foreign-linked network attempted to influence Pakistani media by offering payments for publishing pre-written articles on sensitive national issues.

In a series of posts on his X account, Durrani claimed he shared audio recordings of conversations with individuals allegedly connected to the network, who offered financial incentives for publishing prepared content related to Pakistan’s military leadership, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), and Pakistan-China relations.

The journalist alleged that a woman claiming to represent a Dubai-based public relations agency offered payments for publishing selected articles and assured financial assistance and relocation support in case of any legal or official action.

Durrani claimed that payments totaling Rs103,000 were made through digital and cryptocurrency channels, while alleging that the funds were later traced to an account in a remote area of Sindh.

He further alleged that the individuals provided articles critical of state institutions and economic conditions, requested specific changes including references to certain personalities, and sought unpublished information related to national security issues, including developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and government institutions.

According to Durrani, he kept his editorial team informed during the interaction and also informed relevant authorities about the matter. He claimed that the alleged network later increased its offer to Rs170,000 per article and proposed European visas for his family.

The journalist also alleged that the network used fake public relations identities, social media accounts, foreign phone numbers, and digital payment methods to promote particular narratives through Pakistani and international media platforms.

The allegations made by Fakhar Durrani have not been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly confirmed any investigation into the claims.
