Iran Announces Funeral Plans for Ali Khamenei
Mashhad Chosen as Final Resting Place for Khamenei
TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Iranian authorities have announced that former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will be laid to rest in the northeastern city of Mashhad, following a series of funeral and memorial ceremonies scheduled across the country.
According to Tehran municipal official Mohammad-Amin Tavakkolizadeh, Khamenei will be buried at the revered Imam Reza Shrine in accordance with his reported wishes and the recommendation of his family.
Officials said Tehran will host three days of farewell ceremonies, including a 24-hour funeral procession. Events may take place at the Grand Mosalla or the mausoleum of Ruhollah Khomeini before the body is transferred to Qom and later to Mashhad for additional commemorations.

The ceremonies are expected to begin during the second half of June, with authorities anticipating a massive turnout. Officials estimate that millions of people could participate in the events planned for Tehran.
Large numbers of pilgrims and mourners from neighboring countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and India, are also expected to attend the funeral ceremonies, reflecting Khamenei’s influence among supporters across the region.
Following Khamenei’s death on February 28, Iran’s Assembly of Experts selected his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the country’s new supreme leader in early March.
