Anthropic Raises Billions, Surpasses OpenAI in Company Valuation
Anthropic Secures Massive Funding Round, Overtakes OpenAI Valuation Globally
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Artificial intelligence company Anthropic announced on Thursday that it had secured $65 billion in a fresh funding round, pushing the company’s valuation to an estimated $965 billion and placing it ahead of rival OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
The latest investment highlights Anthropic’s rapid rise as one of the world’s leading AI firms. The company, known for developing the Claude AI models, has gained strong recognition for its advanced coding capabilities and cutting-edge generative AI systems.
Anthropic was founded by former OpenAI employees, including chief executive Dario Amodei, and has positioned itself as a company focused on AI safety while continuing to expand aggressively in the competitive AI market.
Unlike OpenAI’s earlier focus on consumer-facing products, Anthropic concentrated heavily on providing generative AI tools for enterprise and business clients, helping the company rapidly attract major commercial partnerships.
Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao said the new funding would help the company meet growing global demand, expand research efforts, and integrate Claude into more workplace platforms.
Anthropic’s valuation now exceeds OpenAI’s reported $852 billion valuation from March, fueling speculation that both companies could pursue public listings later this year.
Musk OpenAI Legal Battle Nears Critical Jury Decision
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which absorbed AI company xAI earlier this year, is reportedly preparing for a massive public offering that could value the business at approximately $1.75 trillion.
The funding round for Anthropic was led by prominent Silicon Valley investment firms including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital.
The round also included billions in previously committed investments from major cloud computing companies, including Amazon.
Technology manufacturers Micron, Samsung and SK hynix also joined the investment as strategic infrastructure partners.
Anthropic stated that Claude has become the first frontier AI model available across all three major global cloud platforms — Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
The company is also facing a legal battle with the Pentagon after the US Defense Department reportedly labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk. Anthropic has challenged the move in court, calling it unconstitutional retaliation linked to disputes over military access to its AI models.
Anthropic’s next-generation AI model, Mythos, has reportedly demonstrated advanced cybersecurity capabilities. Due to security concerns, the company has limited access to select partners instead of releasing the model publicly.
