Ishaq Dar Heads to New York for Pakistan UNSC Open Debate

UNSC – Pakistan is set to take part in the Pakistan UNSC open debate as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar travels to New York City from May 26 to 28, 2026.

The high-level session at the United Nations Security Council will center on global peace and security. It will also look at the growing role of the UN in tackling today’s most pressing international challenges.

China holds the presidency of the Security Council for May 2026. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will chair the debate. Pakistan welcomed this initiative and reaffirmed its strong support for the multilateral system and the UN’s central role in world affairs.

On May 28, Dar will also join a meeting of the Global Governance Group of Friends. The session will explore reforms in global governance and shared solutions to common international problems.

On the sidelines of the visit, the foreign minister is expected to hold one-on-one meetings with key world leaders and senior UN officials. These talks will help strengthen Pakistan’s diplomatic ties at the global level.

Pakistan remains committed to playing a positive and constructive role in advancing global peace, security, and sustainable development on every international platform.
