Punjab CM Presents Housing And Development Plans In Baku
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz delivered a keynote address at the World Urban Forum Leaders Summit in Baku, where she outlined Punjab’s ongoing urban development reforms, housing initiatives, and people-centered governance model.
She described her participation in the summit as an honor and praised Baku as a model of modern urban transformation and global connectivity. Maryam Nawaz noted that the historic Old City of Baku reflects deep civilizational links between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, adding that ancient trade routes such as Multan Sarai highlight centuries-old cultural and economic ties.
The chief minister conveyed greetings from Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as the people of Pakistan, while thanking the Azerbaijani government for its hospitality.
She praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his vision of sustainable urban development, stating that his leadership has transformed Baku into a globally connected and vibrant city. She also recalled the historical ties between Nawaz Sharif and Azerbaijan’s founding leadership.
Major Diplomatic Breakthrough for Maryam Nawaz in Baku
Highlighting Punjab’s development strategy, she emphasized building cities around human dignity, environmental sustainability, and data-driven governance. She announced the “Punjab Socio-Economic Registry,” a door-to-door data initiative designed to support inclusive planning and welfare delivery.
Maryam Nawaz said the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program has provided interest-free housing loans to 160,000 families within a year, with over 100,000 families already moving into their homes. She also highlighted the Model Village Program, clean water projects, and a $2 billion urban development initiative focusing on infrastructure, drainage, and flood resilience.
She further noted that more than 30,000 kilometers of roads have been completed in the past two years, and announced restoration work at over 100 historical and cultural sites under the “Magnificent Punjab” program aimed at promoting heritage and tourism.
