China calls for stable ties with US amid fresh diplomatic talks

Premier Li urged Washington to move away from “zero-sum.

BEIJING (WEB DESK ) : China’s top leadership has issued a fresh call for “stable and predictable” relations with the United States following a series of high-level meetings in Beijing.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang, alongside other senior officials, hosted a US Senate delegation led by Steve Daines on Wednesday, stressing that cooperation remains the only viable path for the world’s two largest economies.

During the talks, Premier Li urged Washington to move away from “zero-sum” thinking and instead pursue constructive economic cooperation with Beijing. He expressed hope that the United States would work with China to promote dialogue and mutually beneficial relations rather than confrontation.

“It is hoped that the US side will work with China in the same direction, pursue dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation rather than confrontation and zero-sum competition,” Li said.

He added that maintaining stable economic and trade ties serves the fundamental interests of both countries and contributes to global economic stability.

The visit also included meetings with Zhao Leji and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Discussions focused on strengthening legislative exchanges and improving diplomatic understanding between the two nations.

Chinese officials highlighted the importance of direct engagement with US lawmakers amid ongoing tensions over trade, technology, and geopolitical issues. Beijing also reiterated its position on mutual respect and peaceful coexistence as the basis for future relations with Washington.
