US shifts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa diplomatic duties to Islamabad embassy

PESHAWAR: (Anwar Zeb Khan) – The United States Department of State has announced the phased closure of the US Consulate Peshawar, with its diplomatic responsibilities for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being transferred to the US Embassy Islamabad.

According to the official statement, the decision has been taken as part of efforts to ensure the security of diplomatic personnel and to optimize operational resources. The closure will be implemented in phases rather than immediately.

The State Department clarified that this administrative change will not affect overall US policy towards Pakistan. It said the United States remains committed to engaging with both the public and authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and development.

Officials further emphasized that diplomatic engagement will continue through the US Embassy in Islamabad, which will now oversee all regional matters previously handled by the Peshawar consulate.
