Eid-ul-Adha 2026 likely dates and expected holidays

The dates for Eid al-Adha are expected to depend on the sighting of the moon for the month of Dhul-Hijjah

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) According to initial projections, if the moon is sighted on May 17, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on May 18, and Eid-ul-Adha is likely to be observed between May 27 and 29.

The current Islamic month, Dhul-Qaida, began on April 19, 2026. The meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the Dhul-Hijjah moon is expected to take place on May 17.

If the moon is not sighted and Dhul-Qaida completes 30 days, Eid-ul-Adha is expected to fall between May 28 and 30.

As per the official calendar, public holidays for Eid are likely from May 27 to 29 (Wednesday to Friday). If these holidays align with the weekend (May 30 and 31), citizens could enjoy an extended break of up to five days.

In case Eid shifts a day later, with Dhul-Hijjah starting on May 19, holidays may fall from May 28 to 30 (Thursday to Saturday), potentially creating a long weekend by including Sunday.

Final dates will be confirmed following the official announcement after moon sighting.
