Iran “wants a deal” — but no nuclear weapons allowed: Trump

Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said,

Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran has expressed interest in reaching a new agreement with the United States, but insisted that any deal will not allow Tehran to develop or possess nuclear weapons.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated that Iran had recently made contact and indicated willingness to negotiate after stalled diplomatic talks. However, he made clear that Washington’s position remains unchanged.

“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, emphasizing that the U.S. would not accept any agreement that permits nuclear capability.

The remarks come amid rising tensions between the two countries following the collapse of recent negotiations held in Pakistan, where discussions reportedly broke down over Iran’s nuclear enrichment program and regional security demands.

According to reports, Trump also claimed that discussions had reached a “roadblock” and suggested that additional pressure measures, including maritime restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, were already being enforced or considered as part of U.S. strategy.

Despite the firm stance, Trump said diplomatic channels remain open and suggested Iran’s willingness to talk could still lead to a future agreement if nuclear conditions are met.

International reactions remain cautious as tensions in the Gulf region continue to rise, with global markets also reacting to instability in one of the world’s key oil transit routes.
