GB Secretary Urges Journalists to Promote Responsible Reporting

Government, journalists discuss media challenges and responsibilities in Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT: (Musab Khaliq) – A meeting was held between the Secretary Information of Gilgit-Baltistan, Sanaullah, and representatives of the National Newspaper Association. The delegation was led by President Meraj Alam and included other key officials. The discussion focused on improving professional skills within journalism and addressing the challenges faced by journalists working in national media.

During the meeting, media representatives, including Meraj Alam and Gilgit-Baltistan Union of Journalists President Khalid Hussain Shah, briefed the Secretary on the current state of national media in the region. They highlighted critical issues such as financial constraints, administrative hurdles, limited facilities, and the need for stronger institutional support for journalists.

Secretary Information Sanaullah acknowledged the important role of national media and emphasized that its responsibilities in Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to grow, particularly with upcoming elections. He stressed the importance of responsible and balanced reporting during this period, along with effectively showcasing government development initiatives.

He further described Gilgit-Baltistan as one of Pakistan’s most scenic regions with vast tourism potential. By promoting its natural beauty, historic heritage, and cultural richness, the region can attract international tourists and strengthen its economic prospects.

Concluding the meeting, the Secretary encouraged journalists to practice constructive journalism, promote responsible reporting, and contribute to public awareness, economic progress, and regional development.
