Heavy Rain Forces Motorway Closures in Pakistan

Rain Disrupts Traffic, Motorways Closed in Islamabad and Lahore

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Heavy rain in Islamabad has forced the temporary suspension of passenger vehicle movement on the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway, with authorities urging citizens to exercise caution for their safety.

A Motorway Police spokesperson explained that continuous rainfall has made the roads slippery and reduced visibility, increasing the risk of accidents.

The Motorway Police also announced that the M-2 motorway in Lahore has been closed from Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Momin due to similar weather conditions. Officials advised the public to avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Traffic authorities said they are monitoring the situation closely and will reopen roads as soon as it is safe to do so.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority issued alerts warning of rain, snowfall, and potential flooding across different regions of the country.

In Islamabad, intermittent showers have caused water accumulation on several highways, affecting traffic flow, according to an Islamabad Police spokesperson. Traffic police officers are actively managing congestion and assisting commuters to maintain smooth traffic movement.
