Buttler remains hopeful of England return despite T20 World Cup struggles
Jos Buttler aims for England comeback after T20 World Cup disappointment
England – (Web Desk) – Former England captain Jos Buttler said he still wants to play for the national team. He took a break from cricket after England’s semi-final loss in the Twenty20 World Cup.
The 35-year-old scored only 87 runs in eight matches at the tournament. England were knocked out by India earlier this month. Buttler has made just one half-century in his last four ICC events.
He said he hopes to be part of England’s squad when they host India in July. But he knows that selection is not up to him.
“Obviously, I had a poor tournament, which is disappointing,” Buttler said on his podcast For the Love of Cricket. “But I have played some of the best cricket of my career in recent years. Hopefully, I can get back to my best form.”
After the World Cup, Buttler spent time with his family in France. He said cricket was the last thing on his mind. “The tournament didn’t go how I wanted. I needed space from cricket. I just wanted to be away from the game for a while,” he added.
There have been questions about England coach Brendon McCullum after the Ashes loss in Australia and the World Cup exit. But Buttler backed the leadership group and T20 captain Harry Brook.

“Harry has had a lot happen in the last six months,” Buttler said. “He has performed well, handled off-field challenges, and led brilliantly in his first ICC tournament as captain. I hope England cricket continues to support him and move forward.”
Buttler will travel to India this week to join Gujarat Titans. The new IPL season begins on March 28.
