Gilgit-Baltistan Govt Approves Key Measures to Restore Law and Order

The government has also ordered a tighter crackdown on hate speech

Gilgit: (Web Desk) – The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has given in-principle approval to several major decisions aimed at reviewing the law and order situation and ensuring long-term stability across the region.

According to an official statement, the government has approved the formation of a high-level judicial commission to conduct a transparent investigation into the prevailing situation in Gilgit-Baltistan. Additionally, a large-scale de-weaponization campaign will be launched across Gilgit, with concerned institutions directed to complete all arrangements immediately.

The government warned that strict legal action will be taken against elements involved in vandalism of government buildings, private property, and violent incidents in Gilgit and Skardu. It was reiterated that no form of unrest or mischief would be tolerated.

Army Called in; 3-Day Curfew Imposed in Gilgit, Skardu

In view of the security situation, curfew will remain enforced in Gilgit, while a decision regarding the extension of curfew in Skardu will be taken based on ground realities and evolving conditions.

On the development front, approval has been granted for an immediate survey of damaged infrastructure, with restoration work to begin on a priority basis. The government has also ordered a tighter crackdown on hate speech, fake news, and cyber crimes.

Furthermore, inter-district transfers of police personnel are being carried out under the Inspector General of Police’s plan to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen law enforcement across the region.
