ChatGPT Nears 1 Billion Weekly Active Users

OpenAI said users rely on ChatGPT to learn, write, plan, and build.

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – ChatGPT now has 900 million weekly active users, OpenAI announced Friday. The milestone brings the AI chatbot close to reaching 1 billion weekly users. The company also reported that it has 50 million paying subscribers.

In a blog post, OpenAI said subscriber growth has accelerated at the start of the year. January and February are expected to be the largest months for new subscriber additions in the company’s history.

OpenAI said users rely on ChatGPT to learn, write, plan, and build. As usage increases, the company said improvements become more noticeable, including faster response times, greater reliability, stronger safety systems, and more consistent performance.

The new weekly active user figure represents an increase of 100 million compared to the 800 million reported in October 2025.

$110 Billion Funding Round

OpenAI disclosed the updated user numbers alongside news that it has raised $110 billion in private funding. The raise ranks among the largest private funding rounds to date.

The new funding includes $50 billion from Amazon and $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank. The investment places OpenAI at a $730 billion pre-money valuation.

The funding round remains open, and the company expects additional investors to participate.
