Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister congratulate BNP and Tarique Rahman on election victory, pledging stronger ties with Bangladesh.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif – (Web Desk) – President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its leader, Tarique Rahman, on winning a decisive majority in Bangladesh’s national elections and securing the mandate to form the next government.

In a statement issued from Islamabad on Friday, President Zardari also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful completion of the electoral process across 299 constituencies, noting the participation of more than 127 million registered voters.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Bangladesh’s sovereignty and democratic values, the President said Islamabad looks forward to working closely with the incoming government to enhance cooperation in trade, defence, cultural exchanges, and regional platforms.

President Zardari added that the elections present an opportunity for South Asia to move past earlier phases where regional cooperation, including within SAARC, was undermined, stating that India has continued to obstruct the forum established in Bangladesh in 1985.

He expressed the hope that the new political environment in Dhaka would contribute to more balanced, independent and mutually respectful engagement across the region.

The President conveyed his best wishes for the continued stability, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also extended felicitations to Tarique Rahman on leading the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to a resounding victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.

In a post on X handle, PM Shehbaz also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the elections.
