Pakistan, Myanmar strengthen ties during FM Than Swe visit
Pakistan and Myanmar strengthen historic friendship through high-level talks, aiming to boost cooperation, peace, and mutual development opportunities.
Pakistan & Myanmar – (Web Desk) -Pakistan and Myanmar are working to strengthen their long-standing bilateral ties as Myanmar’s Foreign Minister than Swe visited Islamabad on a four-day official trip starting January 24. The visit aims to reinforce cooperation between the two countries after a gap in high-level exchanges; the last Myanmar leadership visit to Pakistan was in 2015, while Pakistan’s last visit to Myanmar was in 2012.
Upon arrival, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Than Swe, emphasizing the historical friendship and mutual respect shared between Islamabad and Naypyidaw. He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to deepening collaboration through structured engagement and practical initiatives across areas of mutual interest. Dar also expressed hopes for peace and stability in Myanmar, noting the recent general elections could contribute to inclusive governance and development.
FM than Swe expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality and shared Myanmar’s interest in expanding both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. He noted that both countries share a long history, having been part of British India and fighting for independence together, which has laid the foundation for enduring friendly relations.

The meeting is expected to pave the way for future collaborations, focusing on mutually beneficial projects and strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue a cordial, respectful, and productive partnership.
