Dozens of Afghan Migrants Die Attempting to Cross Iran Border

TEHRAN: Dozens of Afghan migrants have died due to extreme cold while attempting to cross the Iranian border illegally.

According to an Iranian journal, reports indicate that 40 Afghan migrants lost their lives due to the severe cold, with the bodies of 15 migrants transferred to Kohsan and Adraskan districts.

The report stated that the Afghans were attempting to enter the city via the Islam Qala route. A senior Iranian border commander noted that attempts to cross into Iran illegally have doubled since October 2025.

The journal also highlighted that over 1.6 million Afghan migrants and refugees have been deported from Iran this year.
