DHAKA: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, aged 80, has been admitted to hospital with a lung infection and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
Zia was admitted on November 23, and her condition has been described as very critical by doctors, according to her party member Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir.
Several senior leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and concerned supporters have visited the hospital to receive updates on her health.

Her eldest son, Tarique Rahman, who has been based in London since 2008, appealed to the people of Bangladesh to pray for her speedy recovery. In a social media post, he expressed gratitude for the prayers and support, adding that he could not return to Bangladesh due to circumstances beyond his control.
