Federal Government Lifts Ban on Gold Import and Export
According to sources, the ban was imposed due to increasing complaints regarding gold smuggling.
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has lifted the ban on the import and export of gold, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce following approval from the federal cabinet.
The notification states that the previously suspended SRO related to global gold trade has now been reinstated. It further adds that the government has introduced certain amendments to regulations governing the import and export of precious metals and jewelry, while maintaining the existing framework for these transactions. The ministry noted that the framework will continue with improved transparency and an enhanced automated system.

Earlier this year, in May, the government had imposed a temporary ban on the export and import of gold. On May 6, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce suspended the SRO responsible for regulating gold trade for a period of 60 days.
According to sources, the ban was imposed due to increasing complaints regarding gold smuggling.
